Of Course a Dog Makes Me Feel Better

As regular readers know, I love my dog.  A lot.  He and I go most everywhere, and as I live in aAmicus_n_soccer_ball rather self-indulgent part of the world, I am allowed to bring him into most businesses.  (A free marketer, my rule is simple: Any non-food serving place that won't allow me to bring my dog inside doesn't get my business.)  Of course having a dog around makes you feel happier, and of course, leaving your dog makes you depressed.  Everyone understands this.

So I'm not surprised that depressed people find great joy in animal companionship.  But I am surprised that people are demanding, by force of law, that restaurants and airplane allow them to bring their dogs inside.  Strike that: I'm not surprised people are demanding it, I'm surprised that that law allows them to demand it.  In this case, the law is an ass.

SIDE NOTE: I just remembered a story in the Los Angeles Daily Journal about a man with heart problems who is required to carry heart medication with him.  He put his heart pills in a small locket around his dog's neck.

He'd then bring the dog into restaurants with him.  When the restaurant manager asked him to remove his dog, he would sue, arguing that he needed to have the dog with him because, without his dog, he would not have his heart pills.  His theory was this: I might forget my heart pills, but I would never forget my dog.  Therefore, by not allowing me to keep my dog inside, you are not allowing me to keep my heart medication.

Not to be excessively anal, but it's "the law is a ass..." -- at least in the original. See Dickens, "Oliver Twist." :-)

Oh, you should spread the love and post more pictures of the pooch. :-)

Baftime sux...

I love dogs, too!

Even in restaurants, but of course that has to be a limited occurrence....

Peace.

Looks like a blue merle Sheltie. Almost as cute as mine. :)

Aussie, but we're going to get the blue merle sheltie for my wife's mother when she retires in the next couple of years.
